Iran (IP) - Iran sent the first cargo of humanitarian aid to the flood-hit people of Pakistan.

Iran PressIran News: Thousands of people living near flood-swollen rivers in the north were ordered to evacuate Saturday (Aug 27) as the death toll from devastating monsoon rains neared 1,000 with no end in sight.

The humanitarian aid was received on Wednesday by the head of Pakistan's Red Crescent Society, Ayyub Khan, at the Rimdan-Gabd cross-border gateway. 

There in the delivery ceremony of the aid, the Iranian delegation conveyed the condolence message of the Iranian nation and government to the people of Pakistan. 

Ayyub Khan, for his part, said that the Iranian aid, including field tents and blankets, would be distributed among the flood-hit people of Pakistan. 

On Saturday night, the Pakistani Prime Minister appreciated Iran's support for the country in the tough times of the disaster. 

With the flood death toll hitting 937 and still on the rise, the government of Pakistan has declared the monsoon rain-induced floods a “climate-inducted humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. 219
