Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq to discuss the latest state of bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

Iran PressIran news: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who traveled to Tehran on Monday morning, held a meeting with the Iranian foreign minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

This is the second visit of the Iraqi foreign minister to Iran in the past six months. On April 13, the Iraqi Foreign Minister met with his Iranian counterpart during his trip to Tehran.

In this meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, while expressing his satisfaction with the relations between the two countries in various areas of cooperation, emphasized the necessity of implementing the bilateral agreements. 

Amir-Abdollahian stressed prioritizing the promotion of commercial-economic relations and utilization of the great capacities available in the context of the cooperation between the two countries.

Iran's top diplomat, referring to facilitating commercial exchanges at border crossings and the finalization of the Basra-Shalamchehrailway, noted that these its contribute to increasing tourism and the volume of exchanges in reaching a higher level of cooperation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran pointed to the importance of stability, peace, and preservation of national unity in Iraq. He described the view of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of resolving the issues raised in the domestic scene of Iraq within the framework of legal processes while maintaining the authority of the Iraqi government.

In this meeting, Fuad Hossein also emphasized the significance of relations between the two countries while appreciating the responsible stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of internal developments in Iraq.

Iraqi Foreign Minister also pointed to the provisions of the Iraqi government regarding the Arbaeen pilgrimage and the ongoing efforts to establish internal peace and stability in Iraq. The Iraqi Foreign Minister considered the security of Iran and Iraq to be intertwined and emphasized that his country will not allow any threat raises against the Islamic Republic of Iran on Iraqi soil.

Important developments in the region and the development of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the countries of the Persian Gulf were among the other issues raised in this meeting.
