Safety systems at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine were activated on Thursday; after power, cuts were reported across swathes of Russian-controlled territory.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is currently under Russian control.

Safety systems were activated at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after a power outage, which temporarily left the facility without electricity, members of the Russian-backed administration in the Ukraine region have claimed.

Outages were reported in parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, while Russia's defense ministry said Ukraine shelled the plant.
