Tehran (IP) - The Deputy of Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Tehran has floated the idea of a common currency to form an economic union with the Commonwealth of Independent States--Central Asian states, Russia, China, India, and Pakistan.

Iran PressIran news: Mehdi Safari, Deputy Minister of Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, stated in an interview with China's Phoenix Television: "Even if the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement is fulfilled and the obstacles in the relations between Iran and the West are removed, the Islamic Republic of Iran will never forget its friends such as China, Russia or India."

In response to a question that some Chinese are worried that if the relationship between Iran and the West is formed within the framework of the JCPOA, the ties between Tehran and Beijing may be overshadowed, Safari added: "The President of Iran has repeatedly emphasized that the principled approach of the government in Foreign policy is balanced, and if the relations between Iran and the West return to normal if the JCPOA agreement is fulfilled, Islamic Republic will not forget its friends, including China."

Speaking about Iran's cooperation with its trading partners, the diplomat noted: "For economic cooperation with regional countries, Tehran has also floated the idea of a common currency to form an economic union with the Commonwealth of Independent States--Central Asian states, Russia, China, India, and Pakistan."
