Tehran (IP) - Every year in the lunar month of Zul-Hajjah, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Ghadir. Shias in Iran commemorate the occasion in large gatherings this year after easing COVID restrictions.

Iran PressIran news: Eid al-Ghadir marks the day when Prophet Mohammad appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first Shia Imam, as his successor and the leader of Muslims some 14 centuries ago.

Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used the Ghadir Khumm event to enlighten people about the characteristics of a qualified leader that can be trusted with the management of society.

Eid al-Ghadir is amongst the most significant feasts of Shia Muslims.

It comes eight days after another significant festivity on the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. The occasion marks the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Scores of people in Tehran to attend 10 km-long ceremony of Eid al-Ghadir

Tehran's Vali-e Asr Street will host a special 10 km-long ceremony on the occasion of the Eid al-Ghadir on Monday, in which they will be offered various Iranian food and drinks and celebrate the occasion.
