Iran PressIran News: The people of Qom and the pilgrims organized celebrations on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir in the streets around the Fatima Masumeh Holy Shrine and the different courtyards of the shrine on Thursday.

Non-Iranian pilgrims and scholars also attended the celebration.

Eid al-Ghadir Khumm is a festive day observed by Shiite Muslims on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar.

Eid al-Ghadir, or feast of Ghadir Khumm, marks the day when the Prophet of Islam appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUM), the first Shia Imam as his successor and Muslims’ next leader.

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) announced his appointment on the way back from his last Hajj pilgrimage fourteen centuries ago.

Ghadir tradition is one of the conclusive pieces of evidence for the immediate guardianship and caliphate of Imam Ali (a.s.) after the Prophet (s.a.w.a.). The researchers render special importance to it.
