Tashkent (IP) – Iranian Parliament Speaker, in his meeting with his Uzbek counterpart, stressed the increase of the trade exchange between the two countries to two billion dollars.

Iran PressAsia: The Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, left Tehran for Tashkent on Tuesday to meet with the officials of Uzbekistan.

In a meeting with Speaker of the Uzbek Parliament Nuruddin Jan Ismailov in Tashkent, Ghalibaf stated that one of the most important achievements of his trip to Uzbekistan should be the promotion of relations in the economic and cultural fields, and said that increasing trade exchanges to two billion dollars is one of the goals that can be achieved.

He said that the cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan could create a great opportunity in the field of transit, especially for Uzbekistan's access to open waters, namely the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Ghalibaf also pointed to the unilateral US sanctions against Iran, which are against all international laws, and pointed out that despite the sanctions, Iran had been one of the pioneer countries in the fields of engineering, cyber, health, scientific and knowledge-based services.

He noted that Iran is among the top 10 countries in the world in some of these fields, and through this, relations between Iran and Uzbekistan could be expanded.
