Iran PressIran news: In a telephone conversation, the foreign ministers of Iran and China held discussions over the trend of bilateral ties and also some regional and international issues of mutual interest including the sanctions removal talks in Vienna.

Hossein Amirabdollahian thanked China for inviting Iran’s President to attend the upcoming summit of the BRICS grouping. He welcomed China’s initiative for global development and security.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that during Beijing’s presidency at BRICS, multilateral cooperation will expand.

Amirabdollahian said talks between the officials of the two countries provide a suitable platform for consultations over the expansion of relations between Tehran and Beijing. The top Iranian diplomat added, "Given that Covid is under control, we hope the expansion of ties between Iran and China, including in air transportation and student exchanges, will be facilitated as soon as possible.”

Amirabdollahian also spoke about the sanctions removal talks in Vienna. He described the politically-motivated resolution against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency as unconstructive and stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is in good faith, ready to reach a lasting deal that would preserve the interests of the Iranian people.

Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi for his part welcomed the participation of President Ebrahim Raisi in the BRICS summit, saying the talks are aimed at shifting attention to emerging markets and economic solidarity among developing countries.

He also expressed hope that the end of the Covid pandemic in China will make it possible for the presidents of Iran and China to meet in person.

The Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s opposition to unilateralism in the international community and said a strategic partnership with Iran will be useful and constructive for ties between the two nations.

Wang Yi also once again declared China’s support for the continuation of the Vienna talks and said the IAEA’s political resolution against Iran caused tension. He voiced hope that diplomacy and dialog will result in a deal in the Vienna talks.
