Tehran(IP)- In a meeting to boost political and economic relations, Iran and Kazakhstan's presidents officially inaugurated the first international transit railway to Europe as the train arrived in Tehran from Nur-sultan and moved towards Türkiye.

Iran PressIran news: On June 2, 2022, a high-level delegation from Kazakhstan met with Seyed Miad Salehi, Iran's CEO of the Railway Company, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Convergence and Trade, as well as the Head of the Railways.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed economic cooperation and rail transport development. They agreed to implement a memorandum for railway cargo through the China-Russia-Europe corridor to be transferred from the China-Kazakhstan-Iran-Europe railway corridor.

During the visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which was carried out at the invitation of Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, had bilateral talks at the highest level, as well as the signing of several cooperation documents.

The first transit train carrying a container of sulfur from Kazakhstan to Turkey, after passing through Turkmenistan, entered Iran through the Incheh Borun border on the morning of Friday, June 17, and arrived at the Tehran railway station.

The two presidents inaugurated the first international transit railway to Europe as the train arrived in Tehran from Nur-sultan and moved towards Türkiye.

Tokayev described trade and economic cooperation between the two countries as very important. Despite the unique geopolitical situation and restrictions in Kazakhstan, the volume of trade between the two countries has increased by 50% this year.

"We plan to establish a joint chamber of commerce between the two countries," the Kazakh president said, adding, "In this regard, Kazakhstan issues 14-day airport visas to Iranian businessmen."

Previously, a ceremony was held to sign a cooperation deal between the ministers of Iran and Kazakhstan's Railway Companies in Nur-Sultan, and the two countries' officials welcomed a new era of railway cooperation with Central Asia and European countries.
