Gaza (IP) - A senior member of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement called "Nakba Day" a symbol of the occupation of Palestinian territories since 1948.

Iran PressMiddle East: In an interview with Iran Press in Gaza, Walid al-Qatati stated that the colonial West was behind the formation of the fake Israeli regime (Nakba Day) and that the crime of the regime continues in Palestine.

Nakba Day is marked by Muslims every year on May 15, the anniversary of the founding of the Israeli regime, which led to the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians and the continuing occupation.

Nakba Day is reminiscent of the bitter days of occupying and confiscating Palestinian lands, and the first wave of displacement and expulsion of more than 800,000 of them from their homes. In Arabic Nakbat means calamity. Palestinians routinely use the word to describe the catastrophic events that followed the occupation of Palestinian lands.

PIJ senior member added that the Palestinians still suffer from the occupation, displacement, and oppression of Western-backed colonial Zionism.

Walid al-Qatati said: "The international community is responsible for the continuation of the crime that stems from Nakba Day because they allowed the occupation of Islamic, Arab and Palestinian lands."

"Despite the heinous crime, the Palestinian people remain steadfast in defending their land and want their rights to be realized," he noted.
