Tehran (IP)- Iranian government spokesman condemned the martyrdom of an Al Jazeera reporter in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in the strongest possible terms.

Iran PressIran News: "The Zionist regime's crime in martyring the Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was considered an attack on media freedom and a violation of international law," Ali Bahadori Jahromi tweeted.

"Israeli state terrorism has repeatedly shown that the regime places no limits on assassination and crime and is addicted to assassinating innocent children, women, journalists and citizens," the tweet read.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has strongly condemned the deliberate targeting of Shireen Abu Akleh, the famous reporter for Al Jazeera news channel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories by the Zionist regime forces.

Shireen Abu Akleh was shot dead by Israeli forces on Wedensday while wearing a press vest and helmet in the occupied West Bank in Jenin.

Khatibzadeh extended condolences over the martyrdom of this senior correspondent to her family, Al Jazeera network, and journalists who are committed to the cause of Palestine and the holy city of al-Quds all over the world.

The Iranian Foreign ministry spokesman described this criminal act by the Zionist regime as clear proof of the regime’s lack of commitment to the role and place of the press, the media, and journalists in promoting awareness for the public opinion.

Khatibzadeh noted that Zionism’s propaganda machine and its affiliated outlets, in spite of their false claims, are afraid of the dissemination of correct news and truth and the Zionist regime will massacre reporters if needed.

Khatibzadeh urged international organizations, human rights bodies, and international media unions to do an independent investigation into the martyrdom of Shireen Abu Akleh and demanded that the regime be held accountable for its crime.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also described the Zionist regime’s offer to probe the crime as being based on blame-game and as escape forward which lacks any credibility.

Shireen Abu Akleh was shot in the face and died soon after, Palestinian Health Ministry added. Another Palestinian journalist working for the Quds newspaper was also wounded, but he was in stable condition.

The shooting happened during an Israeli army raid in Jenin town in northern West Bank.
