Tehran (IP) – A specialized meeting was held to commemorate the Persian Gulf National Day at the Army University of Command and Staff.

Iran PressIran News: The Islamic Republic of Iran has designated April 30 (or 29) as the National Day of the Persian Gulf since the date coincides with the anniversary of Shah Abbas' successful military campaign against the Portuguese navy in the Persian Gulf in 1622 AD. The Persian Gulf is 241,000 square kilometers, it is connected to the Gulf of Oman in the east by the Strait of Hormuz. Moreover, Iran has ruled over this international waterway for more than 2500 years.

The meeting was held on Saturday with the attendance of experts in Persian Gulf affairs, and the documentary 'Persian Gulf' directed by Orod Atapour was screened.

Orod Atapour spoke about the motivation to make the film and said: "Iran has the historical legitimacy of the Persian Gulf and the effort made in this film were presented the scientific and historical documents and reasons in this regard."

"The name has deep roots in history, so we must stand up against the false claims of our southern neighbors," Atapour said.

In his speech, the Head of the Iranian Museums Committee, Ahmad Tabatabai, also said: "The Persian Gulf is in the bed of civilization, and it is the cradle of maritime civilization."

Massoud Bakhtiari, a professor and a member of the Army University of Command and Staff, also stressed that Iranian navy forces are the guardians of Iran's security at seas.

Bakhtiari said that Iran does not intend to invade anyone or any country, but in no way will it allow anyone to change the name of the Persian Gulf.

Highlighting that changing names in the Middle East has unknown intentions, he said: "We must defend our prestige and identity."

Bakhtiari called on making as many documentaries as possible, such as the Persian Gulf documentary, both inside and outside the country, for those who have negative intentions to change the name of the Persian Gulf.

He went on to discuss the military history of the Persian Gulf.
