Meymand (IP) - Meymand is the center of the flower and rose water production in Fars province, southern Iran, and every year in April and May, many tourists travel to this beautiful and spectacular region.

Iran PressIran News: Historical studies show that Iranians are among the first producers of rose water and perfumes in the world. The oldest mention of the name of the rose water manufacturing industry indicates that the birthplace of rose water production in Iran was Meymand, Fars province.

Every year in mid-May, Meymand Flower and rose water festival hosts tourists from Fars province and other regions of Iran. During this beautiful festival, tourists have the opportunity to watch the flower gardens and rituals such as flower-picking to bathe infants with rose petals and rose water manufacturing.

Mohammad Raisi, the secretary of the Meymand flower and rose water festival, said in an interview with Iran Press that the city is beautiful and spectacular, adding that the area under Mohammadi flower (Iranian Damask rose) cultivation in Meymand is 1,600 hectares.

Raisi stated that the production of Nastaran (Rosa Canina) flowers in Iran is also unique to the city of Meymand and the area under cultivation of this flower is 300,000 hectares.

The secretary of the Meymand flower and rose water festival stated that the materials needed for herbal medicines are also produced in this region, adding that Meymand supplies 60% of the materials needed for the production of medicinal plants in Iran.

Raisi stated that Meymand, with 15 industrial factories and more than 110 traditional factories, is the center of rose water production, and 60% of Meymand rose water is exported to the countries on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf and European countries.

He also said Mohammadi flower perfume is exported from Meymand to European countries, including France.

Visiting glass-making and mat-weaving workshops, which are other spectacular attractions during the Meymand flower and rose water festival, more and more persuade tourists to visit the origin of rose water making and the land of Mohammadi and Nastaran (Rosa Canina) flowers.
