Tehran (IP) - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution says in the case of Ukraine, all the world was witness to the West’s racism.

Iran PressIran News: “In the case of Ukraine, all the world was witness to the West’s racism,” the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said, criticizing the discriminatory treatment of people of color who want to flee the war in the Eastern European country.

Delivering a speech on Monday on the occasion of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, the Leader said great injustice is done to people in countries that are affiliated to world powers, but they show no reaction and “they even clearly concerned that the war is going on in Europe and not the Middle East.”

"This means that if the war was in the Middle East, they would not care as much," he added.

Hope, main source of progress, development

Ayatollah Khamenei said: "Hope is the source of all movements and progress, and there are many grounds for hope."

"Nowruz is mixed with remembrance, prayer and spirituality; perhaps among the first holidays of the year among the nations, it is a rare issue to associate the national holiday with prayer and spirituality," the Leader noted.

"Special Iranian taste about Nowruz, makes a person think deeply; spring is a messenger of hope and freshness, and this hope was doubled this year due to the symmetry with the month of Sha'ban; because mid-Sha'ban is the birthday of the great hope of humanity (the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi, the 12th Shia Imam)," he added.

Hope is the source of all movements and progress, and God has provided the cause of hope for the people of Iran, and the grounds for hope are not small, thank God, and let the enemies be angry with the hope of the Iranian nation.

Reforming economic affairs, needs knowledge-based economy

Ayatollah Khamenei said: “In the last ten years, we have faced an accumulation of economic challenges that must be properly managed in order to provide comfort for the people.”

“In the economy, the main issue is national production, and this has been raised in the last three or four years and in the slogan of the year, and the officials did as much as they could, but today our main issue and the executive officials of the country is the economy,” he noted.

The Leader said in addition to officials’ duties to prosper the economy, there are tasks for the people themselves, especially in the field of knowledge-based economics, which the people themselves, and especially the youth, have to do.

“To reform the country’s economic affairs, we must move decisively towards a knowledge-based economy. Advanced knowledge and technology have a complete role to play in all areas of production, even in choosing the type of production work,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“If we pursue this policy and develop knowledge-based enterprises, it will reduce production costs, increase productivity, improve product quality, and make products more competitive in order to be present in global markets and domestically, even if imports flow, people will welcome the quality and cheap domestic product,” he noted.

Pointing to agricultural production, the Leader said: “If we develop knowledge-based companies in the agricultural sector, we will make the most of it in seed improvement, new irrigation and new production methods and better productivity of water and soil. As a result, the country’s food security will be ensured, farmers’ incomes will increase and they will be encouraged. The problem of water shortage can also be solved."

Leader: Dependent sectors on imports, must be adjusted

"Achieving fair progress in the economy and solving the problem of poverty and financial impoverishment, only goes through the path of strengthening production, and if we strengthen production by producing knowledge-based, this great goal will be achieved," the Leader noted.

Highlighting knowledge-based economy in his New Year address to nation, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "We currently have less than 7,000 knowledge-based companies, but the number should increase, and we can increase these companies."

"Of these, about 4,500 are knowledge-based manufacturing companies that create more than 300,000 direct jobs. We expect companies to double, so 30,000 direct jobs will become 600,000 in the new year," Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

"Our country must achieve the necessary security and sufficient self-sufficiency in basic food products; we must be self-sufficient in wheat, livestock feed, corn, barley, and the main sources of oil production," he stressed.

"We have fertile plains all over the country that need to be worked on; A few years ago, in the case of Khuzestan, I encouraged action that was done there and in Gilan and Sistan and Baluchestan, ‌although the amount I asked for was not implemented, ‌but it was a good action," highlighted the Leader.

"Our agricultural sector is one of the most dependent sectors on imports, which must be adjusted, and it is difficult to fight this dependence; because some of these imports of agricultural products have great benefits and some stand and use elements that go back into the ministry and government agencies, so it is hard work, but it must be done," he said.

"The efforts of officials in the field of knowledge-based production and economy is to support and buy their products and give them if they have the necessary facilities," the Leader added.
