Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (R) And, Anniken Huitfeldt

Tehran(IP) - In a telephone conversation with his Norwegian counterpart, the Iranian Foreign Minister described the general atmosphere in Vienna talks as positive.

Iran PressIran news: In a telephone conversation with his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt on Thursday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, described the general atmosphere in Vienna as "positive" and said: "If the parties return to their full obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Iran will also stop its remedial measures."

Amir- Abdollahian also congratulated the Norwegian people and government on the New Year, adding that the Western parties should show their goodwill not only in words but also in deeds.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran further referred to the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Norway's membership in the UN Security Council and expressed hope that the consultations between the two countries on important regional and international issues would be strengthened.

"Hossein Amir-Abdollahian" also spoke about the critical situation in Yemen and Afghanistan and said: "Due to the cold weather of winter, 5,000 Afghan women, children and men enter the borders of Iran every day, so that in the last four months the number of new Afghan refugees in Iran have reached about 800,000."

"Tehran is working to provide humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within the borders of Afghanistan," he said, adding that if the Norwegian government had plans to provide humanitarian assistance to the IDPs, Iran would be ready to provide assistance to the Afghan people by land and air.

Amir- Abdollahian also stressed the need to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the contribution of all ethnic groups in the country and announced readiness to continue consultations between Iran and Norway on Afghanistan and Yemen.

The Norwegian Foreign Minister also praised Iran's responsible efforts to help Afghan refugees, saying that the international community should appreciate Iran's humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

Anniken Huitfeldt called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to attend the summit, saying that Norway would hold a summit in Oslo in June focusing on the Yemeni-Afghan crisis.

Referring to the Vienna talks, the Norwegian Foreign Minister said: "Oslo is following the talks closely and is in the process of constructive cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)." 

Huitfeldt went on to express hope that the Vienna talks would lead to a good agreement between the two sides.

At the end of the telephone conversation, Amir- Abdollahian invited his Norwegian counterpart to visit Tehran.
