Tehran (IP)- The 17th extraordinary meeting of the OIC Council of foreign ministers on Afghanistan will be held on 19 December 2021 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Pakistani deputy head of mission in Iran, Ali Anser Zaidi, told Iran Press that the meeting aims at expressing solidarity with the Afghan people.

We must play our role in controlling and improving the situation of Afghans, especially in terms of food shortages, displacement, and economic collapse, he added.

The purpose of the meeting is to re-draw the international community's attention to the situation in Afghanistan, which can not only be a challenge to humanity but can also exacerbate the security situation, destabilize the country, cause mass displacement and negatively impact regional and global peace and security.

The first extraordinary session of the OIC Council of foreign ministers was held in Islamabad in January 1980 to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

The OIC's FMs will once again meet in a one-day meeting on December 19, 2021, to elevate Afghan stability in Islamabad.

Iran's Foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian will attend the meeting as well.
