Tehran (IP) - According to the statement by Sayyed al-Shohada Headquarters of Iran's Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), a terrorist team in the Sardasht border in northwestern Iran was dismantled by IRGC border guards at the time of arrival to the country.

Iran PressIran News: Following surveillance and intelligence operations, the armed terrorist team was dismantled upon entering the country by IRGC forces of Sayyed al-Shohada Headquarters based in the West Azerbaijan province.

The terrorist group intended to infiltrate and carry out sabotage operations in the northwestern region of the country.

During the operation, weapons and ammunition were seized from the backed terrorists. 

The border city of Sardasht is located in the south of West Azerbaijan and has a 100 km border with Iraq.

The length of the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the province of West Azarbaijan is about 967 km. The province shares borders with the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan and Turkey to the north and Iraq to the west.

On 30 May, Following an attack on Iranian border guards in the Sardasht region of northwestern Iran, the Commander of the Iranian border guards, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei, said that accurate and thorough surveillance of the area would be carried out 100 percent.

Three Iranian border guards were martyred by bandits in West Azerbaijan province, near the city of Sardasht, some days before Iran's border guard commander's new orders.
