Iran Press/ Europe: Russia's Defense Ministry has summoned a US military ally in Moscow over the USS Chafi accident in the Gulf of Peter the Great in the Far East and warned him of the unprofessional behavior of US sailors in the area.
The ministry has said a Russian warship prevented a United States Navy destroyer from what it described as an attempt to intrude into Russia’s territorial waters in the Sea of Japan.
The incident on Friday came as Russia and China conducted joint naval drills in the area, and follows other close encounters involving Russian and Western warships.
The Russian ministry said its navy’s Admiral Tributs destroyer closely approached the US destroyer USS Chafee to force it out of an area near Russian waters that was declared off-limits to shipping due to the military drills there as part of the Russia-China maneuvers.
