Tehran (IP) - The governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stand against the US unilateral interventionism in the international body.

Iran PressIran news: In a virtual meeting with the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of IMF Jihad Azour, Ali Salehabadi criticized the failure of the international body to provide rapid financial assistance to Iran for supplying coronavirus vaccine due to the US sanctions and pressures.

The governor of CBI called on the IMF's West Asia director to send the Iranian case to the IMF Board of Directors as soon as possible to approve the allocation of loans to other countries, as usual.

Salehabadi welcomed IMF's initiative of Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) Fund and said: "This fund will be effective and useful in covering the needs of the applicant countries for managing their economy and the problems caused by the corona pandemic." 

Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) Fund is a new IMF-administered body that aims to provide financial support to low-income and impoverished countries with middle-income.  

The Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of IMF Jihad Azour, for his part, referred to the multiple economic, coronavirus pandemic, and sanction shocks to Iran, expressed satisfaction with Iran's economic stabilization despite these challenges.

The US government hindered the import of medical items to Iran amid the global fight against the worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus.
