Karbala (IP) - Scores of people from around the world are converging in the Iraqi city of Karbala after taking a walk from Najaf to take part in the Arbaeen rituals.

Millions of Iranians use the Arbaeen occasion to pay respect to the holy shrines of Shia Imams, especially the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH) in Karbala.

Every year on the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Hussein ibn Ali, millions of people from across the world march to the city of Karbala in Iraq, where the holy shrine of the Imam is located. 

This year due to the spread of the coronavirus and in order to observe health protocols, most of the pilgrims from other countries could not travel to Iraq.
