One of the countries that President Trump derided as a “shithole” has hired a public relations firm to boost its image.

Haiti, one of the countries US President Donald Trump called a “shithole country” during a closed-door White House meeting on immigration in January, has hired a public relations firms to improve its image.

As The Hill reports, Mercury, a global public relations firm with a lobbying shop in Washington, is now working for Haiti, according to forms filed with the Justice Department.

In its filing to the Justice Department, Mercury, which has a lobbying arm in Washington, wrote that it will oversee Haiti's "print, television, radio and digital media presence by crafting their narrative, amplifying their message and placing stories, booking media appearances, preparing talking points/media advisories.

It is expressly agreed that the services under this contract shall not include any lobbying activities.

Trump has made multiple derogatory comments about countries in Africa.

Trump berated immigrants from Haiti, alleging that they all "have AIDS," and claimed Nigerians couldn't be relied on to "go back to their huts" after seeing America.

In November, the Trump administration announced that it would no longer offer Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the 59,000 Haitians living in the US after the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010.

The Trump administration has established deadlines for Haitian TPS beneficiaries to leave the country by July 22, 2019.

Last month US Presidentt asked why immigrants from "shithole countries" like Haiti, El Salvador and a few African countries, are allowed to enter the US.
