Baghdad (IP) - In a meeting with the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, the Iranian foreign minister emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for holding early elections in Iraq.

Iran PressMiddle East: In his meetings with high-ranking Iraqi officials on the sidelines of the Baghdad Summit known as Regional Meeting in Support of Iraq, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi.

During the meeting, congratulating the successful holding of the Summit, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the importance of parliamentary relations between the two countries and invited Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi to Tehran.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also stressed the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for holding snap elections to crystallize votes and the will of the people of Iraq regarding the upcoming Iraqi Parliamentary Elections.

Al-Halbousi also congratulated Amir-Abdollahian on his appointment as Iran's Foreign Minister and expressed the readiness of the Iraqi Parliament to pursue relations between the two countries. 

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian gave a speech at the Baghdad summit that kicked off on Saturday with heads of state and foreign ministers of regional and some western countries in attendance.
