Baghdad (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in his speech at the Baghdad summit said that the Islamic Republic of Iran respects Iraq's sovereignty as its neighbor and welcomes Baghdad's role as a player for regional stability.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iranian Foreign Minister also said that Tehran would support Iraq's need to reconstruct the country.

"Today, Iraq is playing an important role in the region due to its constructive efforts and views. The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries in the region to recognize the new Iraq and to develop its political, economic, and trade exchanges by supporting the political processes in this country," said Amirabdollahian.

Iraq liberated from terrorism, need reconstruction

The new Iraq liberated from terrorism, needs internal reconstruction and strengthening, and the expansion of cooperation in the region," the Iranian Foreign Minister noted.

"The rise of ISIS was one of the most important dangers in the region and left irreparable damage," he highlighted.

Baghdad summit kicked off with heads of state and foreign ministers of regional and some western countries in attendance.
