Guterres: ready for direct talk with Taliban leaders

UN Secretary-General, commenting on the situation in Afghanistan when meeting with reporters said he was ready for direct dialogue with Taliban leaders.

Iran PressAmerica: Antonio Guterres said he wanted to tell the Afghan people that the United Nations has always been with them.

"The United Nations will remain in Afghanistan and work for the security, stability, and rights of all," he said. 

In an interview, Guterres said that although he has no direct dialogue with the Taliban, the United Nations personnel in Afghanistan have close communication with the group, and he is ready for direct dialogue with Taliban leaders but needs to clarify who to talk to, and why.
