Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for attention to be paid to protecting the lives of Afghan people amid the crisis in Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran news: Expressing concerns over the escalation of the tensions in Afghanistan and the people's situation there, Saeed Khatibzadeh called for the protection of the civilians' lives in the country.

Khatibzadeh pointed to the Taliban's control over Herat, called on the group to seriously allow for ensuring the complete safety and health of diplomats and diplomatic missions of Iran.

In the end, Khatibzadeh informed about the continuous communication between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat and following up on the health condition of the colleagues stationed in that mission.

The spokesman also reported that the Consulate General of Iran, as well as the diplomats and staff of it, were in constant contact with the Ministry.

The Taliban group captured two major Afghan cities, the country’s second and third-largest after Kabul, and a strategic provincial capital on Thursday, further squeezing the embattled government just weeks before the end of the American military mission in Afghanistan.

The seizure of Kandahar and Herat marks the biggest prizes yet for the Taliban, who have taken 12 of Afghanistan’s 34 provincial capitals as part of a week-long blitz.
