Iran is Syria's main partner: Bashar al-Assad

Damascus (IP) - In a meeting with the Iranian Parliament Speaker, the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad called Iran, his country's main partner.

Iran PressMiddle East: "Iran is the main partner of Syria and the coordination between the two countries in the fight against terrorism has created positive achievements," Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said during a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and his accompanying delegation in Damascus on Wednesday.

Bashar al-Assad added: "Iran stood by the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war and supported Syria in all areas."

He also said that the current coordination between the two countries would continue until the liberation of the entire Syrian territory and the defeat of the terrorist groups.

During the meeting, Ghalibaf said that the recent elections in Syria and Iran proved the failure of maximum pressure policies.

Stating that the main focus of his visit was to promote economic and trade cooperation, Ghalibaf added: "In this era and after the victory over the enemy, the two countries should focus on the promotion of economy and trade relations." 

He added: "We must show people that Just as we won the military war, we can win the economic war."

In this meeting, strong relations between Iran and Syria and constructive bilateral cooperation at different levels were discussed.
