Iran wants to join to Caspian Sea Legal Regime Convention

Moscow (IP) - In a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Russia, the Iranian Attorney General emphasized accelerating Iran's joining to the Caspian Sea's legal convention.

Iran PressIran news: To submit the report on the first meeting of the Attorney Generals of the Caspian littoral states hosted by Russia, the Ambassador of Iran to Russia, Kazem Jalali, met with Iran's Attorney General, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri.

"The five Caspian Sea littoral states (Iran, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Azerbaijan) can have close relations in various fields," Montazeri said.

The Attorney General added: "One of the critical issues between these countries is the legal regime of the Caspian sea, which the Islamic Republic has prepared to join the convention, but has not yet signed."

The ambassador also said: "One of the dangers that the Caspian Sea will face in the future is misuse of natural resources of the sea and its environmental issues."

Jalali added: "Prosecutors general of the Caspian littoral states can protect it with judicial cooperation."

Caspian Sea littoral states signed a joint declaration on protecting the environment and biological resources of the Sea on Wednesday, 07 July 2021, in St. Petersburg of Russia.

Caspian Sea Legal Regime Convention signed by the 5 littoral states of the Caspian Sea Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan in 2018.
