Baghdad (IP): The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity called sabotage and overuse of provincial quotas as the most critical factors behind the electricity crisis in Iraq, calling Iran's role to solve this problem the major one.

Iran PressMiddle East: Ahmed Musa called the sabotage and overuse of provincial quotas the most important factors leading to the critical situation and said that Iran was working with Baghdad to solve the issue.

"Iran has played a major role in fueling our power plant." he stressed.

"In the past few days, there has been a reduction in gas injected into power plants, but government teams have been formed and we have made proposals to the Iranian side. The Islamic Republic of Iran agreed to the proposals and responded positively to Iraq and increased gas supplies." The official continued.

"The first factor in the electricity crisis is the severe attacks by ISIS on the towers and then the Iraqi power plants," Ahmed Musa said.

He said that power lines from Iran, especially in Diyala province, would be the target of repeated sabotage attacks.

On Sunday, the Iranian power transmission line in Mirsad-Diyala was attacked by saboteurs disconnecting it from the grid.

On Saturday, the Iraqi government announced that at least seven people were killed and 11 others were injured in various attacks on the country's electricity grid in different areas.

According to the Iraqi government, at least 61 main electricity grid lines were destroyed in the attacks.

ISIS terrorists have been sabotaging the Iraqi electricity distribution network for months, using it as a tactic to harass the Iraqi people, causing power outages in most of the country over the past few months.

In remote areas away from security forces in Diyala, Kirkuk, and Saladin, power transmission towers are often targeted by ISIS terrorists.
