Syria (IP) - Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs met with the President of Syria and discussed the latest developments in Syria, including human rights issues and the next meeting of Astana Talks.

Iran PressMiddle East: In the meeting, Ali Asghar Khaji met Bashar al-Assad and considered the US sanctions on Iran and Syria as the top priority of the two countries and stressed Iran's constant support for the Syrian nation and government to fight terrorism.  

Khaji also emphasized the continued political settlement of the Syrian crisis and held the sixth meeting of the Constitution Committee in Geneva.

For his part, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad welcomed the results of the 13th presidential election in Iran and appreciated the Iranian nation and government's support of Syria. 

He also congratulated the Islamic Republic of Iran on the success of the presidential elections, considering that this success deals a new blow to all forces trying to target Iran's security and safety.

Al-Assad also stressed the Syrian nation's will to fight the invasion and uproot terrorism and announced his country's agreement with the next meeting of the Constitution Committee.

During the visit, Khaji also met separately with Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad and other Syrian officials.
