Tehran (IP) - The Secretary of Iran's Weightlifting Federation said the national team is seeking two quotas at the Tokyo Olympics at the Asian Championship in Uzbekistan.

Iran PressIran news: In an interview with Iran Press on Wednesday, Mohsen Beiranvand said Iran’s weightlifting national team includes Kianoosh Rostami, Sohrab Moradi, Mostafa Javadi, and Hossein Soltani who were present with good conditions in the competitions.

Beiranvand said: “Although the team was sent to Uzbekistan with an incomplete squad, there is great hope for the sent weightlifters to bag medals.”

"The main priority of the team was to win the Tokyo Olympic quota, but efforts would be made so that the Iranian weightlifting team can be among the top 3 in the team competition section of the Asian championship," he told Iran Press.

The Asian Weightlifting Championship was kicked off on April 17 and will continue until April 25 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, in which competitors try to win the Tokyo Olympics quotas.

The only Iranian medalist so far has been Mostafa Javadi, in the 73kg weight category, who won a bronze medal in the single-lift part.
