Tehran (IP) - The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, emphasized the expansion of the two countries' relations in all fields, especially economic and trade.

Iran PressIran News: During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday, Hassan Rouhani noted the Islamic Republic of Iran's interest in developing regional cooperation, welcoming the development of this cooperation to help to establish peace and stability in the region as a strategic step against US unilateralism and interference in regional affairs.

Rouhani emphasized the need to maintain security, peace and stability in the region and that the regional states must maintain the security of the region.

He also stressed the need to develop defense and military cooperation between Iran and Russia, given the end of Iran's arms embargo in October last year.

Appreciating Moscow's position and support for the nuclear talks, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized the continuation of efforts to maintain and revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a multilateral international agreement that has served as a model for resolving problems through negotiation and diplomacy.

"Today, the United States and the whole world have concluded that maximum pressure has failed and that the only way for the United States is to return to the JCPOA is to lift sanctions," he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister also said that the two countries are determined to develop and deepen relations and have a strong will, adding no restrictions on the development of Moscow-Tehran cooperation, including technical and defense cooperation.

"Iran and Russia share common and close goals in regional and international cooperation," he said, referring to the recent nuclear talks in Vienna.

"The only solution to the problem is the unconditional and complete return of the United States to the JCPOA through the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the fulfillment of its commitments," added Lavrov.

He stated: "In our opinion, it is completely unconstructive to ask Iran to accept new conditions within the framework of JCPOA or to act beyond its obligations within its framework."
