Second round of 18th session of Joint Commission of JCPOA kicks off

Tehran (IP) - The second round of the 18th meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Joint Commission kicked off to review the talks between the working groups aiming to lift sanctions.

Iran PressEurope: The second round of the 18th meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission began this afternoon with representatives from Iran, China, France, Germany, Russia and Britain in attendance.

EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell will chair the meeting.

The 18th meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission, which began virtually on Friday, April 2, resumed in-person in Vienna on Tuesday, April 6, with the members' decision.

Heading Iran's delegation, the country's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Abbas Araghchi was accompanied by representatives of other organizations, including the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the Ministry of Oil and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

Based on the participating delegations' decision, two working groups have been formed to contribute to efforts regarding the lifting of US sanctions, and the actions that Iran should take, and these groups are formulating and arranging the actions that should be taken with the participation of member countries.

According to Abbas Araghchi's remarks on Thursday, the JCPOA Joint Commission will evaluate the work of these working groups today, Friday, and it has been decided that the delegations will return to their capitals for few days.

"We may come to Vienna next week to continue the talks," he said, adding: "We may need to repeat this several times so that we can finally reach the conclusion that is in our best interest."
