Tehran (IP) - Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations stressed that unilateral sanctions undermined the demining capacity of the targeted countries.

Iran Press/America: In his Thursday speech at the UN Security Council on demining, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said mines and other explosive matters of war were a challenge to the security and the sustainable development of some countries.

Takht-Ravanchi referred to the 8-year imposed war on Iran by the Iraq Ba'athist Saddam's Regime, saying that five provinces of Iran were contaminated with mines and other explosive remnants of the imposed war, which delayed the reconstruction and socio-economic development of the war-torn cities and villages, and the martyrdom or injury of many Iranian citizens.

He denounced the sanctions as unjust and unacceptable, calling for the immediate lifting of the sanctions and the facilitation of access to technology for demining operations.

Takht-Ravanchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran was ready to expand its cooperation with the countries of the region and beyond, in demining, transferring of experiences and exchange of experts, and holding training courses.
