Iran Press/ America: An anti-hate rally was held in Manhattan Monday ahead of a court appearance for the man charged in a brutal caught-on-camera attack on a 65-year-old Asian American woman who was on her way to church in Manhattan.
The demonstration, entitled "Stop Hate Against Asians," took place on Sunday. In addition to Asian Americans, some local officials, victims of hate crimes, and members of various racial communities and minorities in the United States were present.
Police have identified Brandon Elliot, 38, as the man seen in a video kicking the woman to the ground and then kicking her head several times on March 29 near Times Square.
Elliot was on lifetime parole since 2019 after serving a prison term for murdering his mother in 2002, according to local media citing court records. He was arraigned last week on two charges of second-degree assault as a hate crime and one count of first-degree attempted assault as a hate crime. 219
