Istanbul (IP) - The economic attaché of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkey announced the launch of the Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad freight train operation.

Iran PressIran news: Mohsen Seifi said: "The Turkey-Iran-Pakistan Corridor freight train launched from Istanbul on Thursday."

Referring to the importance and economic efficiency of launching the ECO railway line between Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan for the 3 countries, he added: "The freight train of this corridor, carrying 1,500 tons on the return route, can increase the volume of trade between the three countries up to 50 percent.”

Pakistan-Iran-Turkey Railway Corridor could pave the way for a new Silk Road to transport cargo from China to Europe via Iran.

Freight trains on the corridor have been suspended since 2009.
