According to new studies, 7 new variants of coronavirus have been identified in the United States.

Iran Press/America: New studies in the United States show that seven new variants of the coronavirus have been identified in the United States, all or part of which have mutations similar to those of the coronavirus that spread in the UK and South Africa.

Scientists don’t know yet whether the mutation makes the variants more contagious, but they are concerned that it might.

According to US media, the change is seen in a gene that influences how the virus finds its way into a host's cell, suggesting it could make these variants more contagious — though this hasn't been confirmed. "I think there's a clear signature of an evolutionary benefit," said Jeremy Kamil, a virologist at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and a co-author of the new study.

The US is greatly hit by the coronavirus and the current death toll caused by Covid-19 infection stands at 497,690 deaths from 28,287,232 cases. 219
