Iran not to have bilateral talks with US: MFA spox

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman stated during his weekly press conference that no bilateral talks with the United States are necessary.

Iran PressAsia: Regarding a question about Saudi Arabia, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeid Khatibzadeh said: "Our position is cooperation and dialogue in the region without foreign interference."

For decades, the region has been held hostage to the world arrogance's misguided policies due to its sinister intentions, he said, adding: "Some of our good neighbors in the region have taken some inappropriate steps under the illusion that Trump's presence is a window of opportunity. The path of dialogue is still open, and whenever Saudi Arabia corrects this path and ends the war in Yemen, Iran's will welcome them."

Khatibzadeh added: "No bilateral talks with the United States are necessary and we will not have any talks in this regard. The United States needs to return to its commitments, and if that happens, it is possible to negotiate within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)."

He added: "The US government did its best to destroy JCPOA. The US government was not ashamed to boycott the world in order to destroy JCPOA. It was Iran's strategic patience that this agreement is alive today. He also said that the US is violating Resolution 2231 and JCPOA. Iran has never withdrawn from JCPOA. The party that is in gross violation must return."

Referring to the South Korean oil tanker, he stated: "The issue of the ship is purely technical and the issue of Iranian currency is a matter between Iran and South Korea and the two issues are completely different. We are in close consultation with the prosecutor about the Korean ship. I hope we hear good news about the crew.”

Regarding the coronavirus vaccine, he said: "I assure you that the Foreign Ministry will not take any action unless there is a request from the higher authorities for approval of the vaccine. The only acceptable center is the Ministry of Health, and Foreign Ministry has seriously tried to implement these approvals. In the case of the Russian-approved vaccine, the same has been done at the request of the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is making every effort to facilitate and meet the basic needs of the nation.

"Some paths have been taken and several million doses of vaccine have been purchased from the COVAX. The Iranian-Cuban vaccine has been purchased too. Good talks have taken place with China and India regarding the vaccine," stressed Khatibzadeh.
