Iran considers Russia one of its main defense-military partners: FM Spox

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman called Russia one of Iran's main partners in the defense and military spheres and said that by lifting arms embargoes on Iran, Tehran and Moscow could improve cooperation in these areas.

Iran Press/Iran News: In an interview with Sputnik News Agency, which was published on Wednesday, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, stated that the Tehran-Moscow talks are being held within the framework of the Joint Defense Cooperation Commission, added that any purchase of weapons "from friendly countries" depends on Iran's basic needs, and Tehran can purchase any equipment and weapons without legal restrictions.

Khatibzadeh added that the US, which is addicted to sanctions, imposed new sanctions on Iran after its apparent defeat in the UN Security Council, but any US attempt to impose unilateral sanctions on Iran is a violation of international law and doomed to failure.

In another part of the interview, Khatibzadeh stated that Tehran considers the upcoming US elections as a domestic issue for this country, adding: Iran has repeatedly stated that it does not prefer one candidate over the other in the US presidential election and considers the election to be an internal matter.

Khatibzadeh also referred to Saudi Arabia's role in provoking regional tensions, saying that Riyadh had provided its resources to the US government, but if Riyadh decides to reduce tensions in the region and change its policy, Iran will welcome it with open arms.
