Tehran (IP) - President Hassan Rouhani, in a meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, the Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), Expressed hope for the success of the HCNR to establish peace and stability in the country.

Iran PressIran news: President Rouhani said: "It is important that Afghanistan's people achieve real peace after years of war and conflict to maintain their achievements. The solution is political dialogue and intra-Afghan negotiations.

"Peace, stability, and lasting security in Afghanistan as a neighbor and brother country are important for Iran," Hassan Rouhani said Monday during a meeting with Abdullah Abdullah.

Rouhani stated that the US intervention and presence as an aggressor in Afghanistan was not following the wishes of the people of the country, adding that the Trump administration, which has failed in its policies in the internal, region and the world issues, seeks to take advantage of Afghan peace talks for the US Presidential Election.

Khaf-Herat railway to open in coming days

Rouhani stressed on the development and expansion of Tehran-Kabul relations and said: "A long-term agreement between the two countries cfghafghaan lead to the development and deepening of relations in all fields."

Referring to the opening of the Khaf-Herat railway in the coming days, the President said that the Iranian and Afghan railways' connection would strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and added: "Iran is ready to connect gas pipeline and oil products to Afghanistan provide the chance to its people to use these energies."

The Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) also appreciated Iran's support of establishing lasting peace and security in his country and thanked Iran for hosting Afghan refugees during the years of war and conflict in the country.

Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Tehran on Sunday (October 18th) on a three-day visit to hold talks with senior Iranian officials led by a high-level political and economic delegation.

He has met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian.

He is scheduled to meet with Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, later today to discuss the negotiation process between the Afghan government and the Taliban, bilateral relations, and the latest regional developments.
