Tehran (IP) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, on Saturday, in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, welcomed the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire and stressed the need for further talks to resolve the conflict.

President Rouhani announced his support for the agreement reached during the consultations between the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Armenia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to establish a ceasefire for humanitarian purposes and start negotiations for a peaceful solution.

Rouhani and Putin also reviewed the situation surrounding the implementation of JCPOA and stressing the importance of maintaining this agreement for international security.

Following the telephone conversation, some important issues of bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade fields were discussed.

In their telephone conversation, the presidents of Iran and Russia also paid particular attention to the fight against the coronavirus’ spread, including the prospect of cooperation on the Russian Sputnik vaccine.

In the end, Rouhani congratulated Putin on his 68th birthday, which was two days ago.
