The UN Security Council observed a moment of silence for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other senior government officials who died in a helicopter crash.

Iran PressAmerica: The moment of silence was requested by Russia, China, and Algeria during a Council session on the Ukraine war. 

The Council also discussed the ongoing military aid and arms supplies to Ukraine, with the top UN official for disarmament, Izumi Nakamitsu, highlighting the devastating humanitarian impact of these weapons.

Iran's president Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan Province, and the representative of the Leader in the province were killed in a helicopter crash on May 19.

President Raeisi was returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
