Tehran (IP) - The debate between the two remained candidates of the run-off of the Iranian 14th Presidential Election kicked off on Tuesday night.

Iran Press/Iran news: Saeed Jalili and Masoud Pezeshkian, the two candidates who will compete for the run-off, are to have a televised debate in IRIB on the topic of culture.

Concerning the ways to increase people's participation in the political process of the country, Saeed Jalili stressed that the success of the country including in elections is the result of the people's involvement.

He said that people must be appreciated by preparing the grounds for them to flourish their talents and utilize them to play a role in the country.

Jalili stressed the focus on people's participation in different areas to reach the desired point from the current moment.

Pezeshkian expressed concern about the low turnout in the election and said the issue is rooted in ignoring the role of women, ethnicities, and religious sects.

Internet filtering, inflation, and misbehavior with women were among the factors that harmed people's political participation.

Jalili said that people must be paid attention to and feel that their concerns are important for the administration.

For example, the poor and the labor class or the helpless women expect to be observed and need attention he said adding that the administration has a solution for inflation.

Yet, Pezeshkian stressed that some plans and laws are not enforced and fulfilled, noting that concern for people is not limited to mottos.

He pointed out that the people should reach the belief that all, both the authorities and people, are equal before the law and enjoy justice in using the national wealth.

Internet and Filtering

Presidential Candidate Jalili referred to the issue of the internet and the laws adapted for the virtual space, saying that laws must be standard and not volatile.

Concerning the internet filtering issue, he said that the administration should open the space for people's activity on the internet and step in just for regulation.

Pezeshkian said that filtering is a common phenomenon across the world on certain occasions but in normal times internet must not be filtered.

He criticized VPN selling in the country and said that such a method would lead to a situation where things get out of control.

As with foreign social network platforms, he believed that either the relevant companies or a representative from the administration should sign a contract with the other side to hold the servers accountable for their activities within Iran.

Governance

Given the issue of governance, Jalili stressed the use of a collection of opinions and expert comments, pointing out that the research studies should be done before the new president takes office.

He said that he was not affiliated to any party and would not limited to a specific one, but he would seek help from all Iranians.

The candidate noted that the future president must be well aware of the problems and make decisions just on time.

His rival, Pezeshkian, said what is important was who is the expert and in which area they are specialized.

Pezeshkian stressed the scientific evidence, experts' opinions, and international experiences as the criterion to distinguish between expert and non-expert opinions.

Foreign Relations

This time, Pezeshkian said that the more Iran interacts with the world the life quality of the people gets better.

He said that in case Iran adds to its choices for foreign relations and interactions, the less it would face words that are dictated by some of the arrogant foreign sides.

The candidate said that if certain countries refused to interact, the country could pursue the resistance economy but would be away from progress.

He reiterated that internal disputes must be settled.

Also, candidate Jalili believed in extending interaction with the world and at the same time protecting the national interest.

He referred to the JCPOA as a case of Iran's foreign interaction and said today Iran is in a creditor position to Western sides because they did not fulfill their commitments to the international agreement.

As an approach, he stressed that domestic power and capacities should be relied on to make the enemy regret sanctioning Iran and at the same time try to neutralize the current sanctions.

Jalili insisted on the fact that the country's progress must not tied to calling for relations with a few countries that have the most differences with Iran.

He said that in the JCPOA case, for example, the Western sides did not fulfill their commitments to the deal, instead, Iran fully adhered to it in such a way that the International Atomic Energy Agency announced 15 times that Iran fulfilled its commitments to the agreement.

Yet, Pezeshkian believed that if the Western side refused to fulfill its commitment, the art of dialogue would be adapted as an effective way to create fulfillment.

He referred to compensation for mismanagements and utilization of the domestic capacities to make the country stand on its feet and then go for negotiations with the world powers.
