Iran able to return some of blocked money: FM Zarif

Tehran (IP) - Iran's minister of foreign affairs explained about the foreign ministry's measures regarding the return of Iranian blocked assets, saying that Iran has been successful in repatriating some of its financial claims from other countries.

Iran Press/Iran NewsMohammad Javad Zarif on Monday called barter or purchasing goods as measures to return the blocked money in other countries, saying that Iran will be negotiating for the return of its blocked money and if necessary, the country will pursue this issue in courts.

Explaining about Iranian Foreign Ministry's measures regarding the return of Iranian blocked currencies in banks of various countries, Zarif said: "We will be negotiating the return of our blocked funds and, if necessary, we will pursue the issue in courts."

He stated that there are different ways to return the money through barter or purchase from those countries, adding: "Various methods have been found over the past few years to return our country's money from other countries and we utilize them."

In response to a question about whether Iran has been successful in repatriating some of its financial claims from other countries, Zarif stressed: "In some cases, yes. Some countries have returned some of our money."

Some countries like South Korea have had trade relations with Iran, are refusing to release Iranian currency from their banks following US sanctions and threats to cooperate with Iran.
