Iraq, Iran collaborate to file lawsuit on Lt. Gen. Soleimani assassination

The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council announced on Monday that it has made the necessary arrangements with the Iranian Judiciary to file a complaint against the US over the assassination Lt. Gen. Soleimani, and al-Muhandis.

Iran PressIran News: The late commander of Quds Force of Islamic Revolution are Guards Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, who had traveled to Iraq on the official invitation of the Iraqi officials, was assassinated by the US air-raid in Baghdad on January 3, 2020, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and 8 other companions.

In a statement issued to the media a day after the visit of the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif to Baghdad, the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council added that the investigation into the assassination of Lt. Gen. Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis had begun since the first day of the assassination.

On Sunday, Zarif led a delegation to Iraq to meet with senior Iraqi officials including "Faiq al-Zidan", the chairman of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, and for the last leg of his trip, he visited the Kurdistan Region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Sunday heading a high-level delegation to meet with Iraqi officials.

Upon arrival in Iraq, Zarif visited the site of the martyrdom of General Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, and their companions near Baghdad airport.

Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, who had arrived in Iraq on January 3 at the official invitation of Iraqi officials, along with Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, deputy head of the Iraqi People's Basij (al-Hashd al-Shabi), and eight others in an airstrike orchestrated by The American aggressor.

The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council stated that the investigation was conducted in accordance with Iraqi court of law and that the statements of the plaintiffs and the legal representative of the Iranian embassy in Iraq were recorded and the details of these actions were sent to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
