Iran Press/ Iran news: Abbas Araghchi said the US must be held accountable for its sanctions' impact on the Iranian people's lives.
Aragchi remarked at the First International Conference on Human Rights with the Focus on Cruel Sanctions Impact on Patients' Health held on Wednesday, with the participation of the Vice-President of Iran's Judiciary for International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi.
He said that: "The US sanctions encompasses a very wide range and besides to the humanitarian exemptions with regard to medicine, there are very detailed conditions from OFAC* in such a way that it makes it practically impossible for pharmaceutical companies to fulfil them."
Aragchi said that the same problem is at work with the Iranian banking transactions, including obstacles in the way of insurance and transportation; that is, insurance and transportation companies are caught in the same grid of conditions and risks.
Recalling that the American authorities have admitted the complexity of medicine sanctions on Iran, the Secretary of Iranian Council Strategic Relations said: "The American Society of Hematology announced in November 2018 that severe banking restrictions and fear of secondary sanctions have made it impossible for multinational pharmaceutical companies to operate in Iran."
