Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at the 7th Science and Technology Exchange Program on Monday, Harirchi referred to Iran’s achievements in managing the coronavirus, saying, “In the last 10 days, the daily death toll has been mostly less than 50. Since the peak of the disease, fatalities have decreased by 70%, hospitalization has decreased by 75%, and hospitalization in ICU has decreased by 50%.”
“The decrease in the numbers has been due to screening measures of the country in which screening of patients with mild symptoms, asymptomatic individuals, and those who have been in contact with infected ones has increased,” Iran’s Deputy Minister of Health added.
The official also said that in total cases per million population, with 1,433 cases in one million, Iran ranks 50th, while countries such as Spain, Belgium, the United States, and France have much higher statistics.
“Also, in total deaths per million population, Iran is standing at 88th, while Belgium, Spain, and Italy, have 1st to 3rd ranks respectively,” Harirchi said.
Iran, self-sufficient under sanctions
Pointing to the difficulties of confronting coronavirus in the country, Haririchi said: "We have been under the most severe sanctions for the past two years, and in this situation, we are fighting on two fronts at the same time, although this has made us more dependent on ourselves."
“After the Iranian bought shipments of medical supplies were confiscated on several occasions, we became self-sufficient within 40 days, and now, we are exporting masks, medical supplies, ventilators, and serologic tests,” he added.
Afghan COVID-19 patients being treated on free in Iran
"Admission of patients to hospitals in Iran has always been done without any discrimination, and it has not been a single case that foreign nationals in the country become infected with coronavirus and are not accepted. Even Afghan patients are treated free of charge by the order of President Hassan Rouhani,” Harirchi said.
Iran’s Deputy Minister of Health expressed hope that with the cooperation of the countries of the world, the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 would be done everywhere without discrimination, and no one would witness acts such as mask theft.
Mustafa Prize holds 7th STEP conference to share COVID-19 experiences
The 7th Science and Technology Exchange Program was kicked off by Mustafa Prize on Monday in which researchers from various countries, including Iran, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Bangladesh presented their findings from researches related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and shared their experiences.
The 1st version of the conference was held in 2015 with the start of the Mustafa Prize and the current conference was held via video conferencing due to COVID-19 social distancing.
The two-day conference, chaired by Rassoul Dinarvand, Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), was started on May 18, and the second day will be held on May 28.
