ranian students living in Italy demand return to Iran: FM Spox

Tehran (IP) - Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that due to the Coronavirus in Italy, tens of Iranian students studying in that country are demanding to return to the country, which is under serious scrutiny in Tehran and Rome.

Iran PressIran News: According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi as soon as they receive the necessary permits - given the alert status in that country - the necessary action will be taken to return the students. 

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will pursue the matter through the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Rome and the Italian Government," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi.

More than 662,700 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus across the world and 30,751 have died.

About a third of the deaths have been in Italy, where the toll passed 10,000 on Saturday, the second-highest number of cases in the world behind the United States.

Officials announced on Saturday that 889 more people had died of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours.

The figure was the second-highest daily tally since the epidemic emerged in Italy five weeks ago. Italy’s total fatalities now stand at 10,023.

In Italy, government officials placed the country of 60 million people on lockdown on March 10 in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus. The restrictions will run until April 3.
