Muqtada al-Sadr calls for Iraqis to avoid tension, clashes

Baghdad(IP)- Iraqi senior cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for restraint on Friday to avoid tensions and clashes following the US-led airstrike on al-Hashed al-Shaba'i (Popular Mobilization Forces) headquarters today.

Iran Press/Middle East:  Iraqi senior cleric Muqtada al-Sadr wrote in a tweet that among all the major disasters that have affected the world in general and the Iraqi nation in particular, we must keep Iraq out of further tensions and conflicts.

He added, "I call for maintaining restraint and establishment of peace throughout our beloved Iraq and abandoning violence until God permits."

"We consider the conditions surrounding Iraq and ask God to rid Iraq of the occupiers and the corrupt."

US forces attacked the Hashd al-Shaabi base and Iraqi army in four provinces by plane and rocket early Friday morning. The attacks targeted al-Hashed al-Shaabi bases, emergency units, and the 19th Army in the areas of Jurf al-Nasr, Musayib, Najaf, and Al-Eskandarieh.

The move, which led to the killing and wounding of a number of Iraqi security forces, was condemned by Iraqi officials. Iraqi President Barham Salih assessed the move as a violation of his country's national sovereignty and summoned the British and US ambassadors to Baghdad.
