Six people have been killed in a shooting at the Molson Coors Brewing Company campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin state, local officials say.

Iran Press/America: The shooting happened in a brewery inside the Molson Coors plant, better known as the Miller brewery, at 4000 W. State St. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales said officers arrived at the plant 2:08 p.m. for a call of a shooting.

The suspect is a 51-year-old man who was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Milwaukee police. The shooter was also an "active" employee.

Mayor Tom Barrett called the shooting "horrific" and said it was a "horrible" day for employees and those close to the situation.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI were at the scene investigating.

The newspaper notes that nearby schools were locked down, causing heightened anxiety for parents looking to pick up their children while awaiting an "all-clear."

Earlier in the day, the Milwaukee Police Department tweeted that it was investigating "a critical incident" and urged residents to "stay clear of the area at this time."

Every year thousands of people lose their lives or get wounded by gunshot attacks. Based on official statistics there are around 270 to 300 million guns in the US, which is almost one gun for every American.

US President Donald Trump is one of the supporters of the gun lobby.
