Turkey beefs up military presence in Syria amid Syrian Army advances in Idlib and Aleppo

Turkey has sent more troops to the Syrian border where the Syrian Army and its allies captured al-Humayra strategic region in Aleppo on Friday and made substantial advances in Idlib province.

Iran Press/Middle East: The Syrian Army also liberated five new towns to the north of Saraqeb in the northwestern Idlib province.

Turkish officials said Friday they have sent more troops to the border with Syria to counter a Syrian Army push in Idlib aiming to seize control of a strategic highway to Aleppo.

Syrian troops and their allies captured al-Humayra on Friday after intense battles with the foreign-sponsored extremists after inflicting heavy losses on the Takfiri terrorists, both in terms of personnel and equipment.

Humayra had been under Takfiri terrorist control since 2016.

The move is the latest in a series of escalating steps between Turkish and Syrian forces in recent weeks as Damascus has tried to liberate the last terrorist strongholds in northwest Syria.

The progress comes as the Syrian army captured the city of Saraqeb, the second most important city that will enable the Syrian army to capture a major road connecting Hama with Aleppo through Idlib.

Meanwhile, Turkish military forces have constructed a base near the Syrian city of Taftanaz, in the Taftanaz airbase which foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants took control of in early 2013. The Turkish military convoy consisting of dozens of military vehicles, troop carriers, tanks, and soldiers has arrived at the airbase.

The report comes as Turkey’s official state news agency Anadolu reported on Friday that Ankara had sent nearly 150 vehicles with commandos and ammunition to reinforce its observation posts in Syria's Idlib.

The Syrian army has for weeks been fighting the terrorists in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo to secure the main highway linking Hama province in central Syria with Aleppo.

This highway also connects with the Damascus-Hama highway, which will enable the army to secure the main road between Damascus and Aleppo without reroutes.
